Getting ready for cricket

As the season is now upon us, I’d like explain what has happened behind the scenes to ensure we have a ground and pitch to play on.

Throughout the off season, numerous volunteers have give up their time to keep on top of a whole host of jobs. Paul Elby has been instrumental in picking up a huge amount of work over the winter but lots of people have been involved.

As the season approached more and more jobs cropped up and I want to thank all the volunteers who’ve stepped in to help. On some occasions we’ve had more people than we’ve needed and which means lots of the work has been completed ahead of schedule.

We held a socially distanced volunteering day at the club two weeks ago and it was great to see how many people turned out to make sure we were ready for the first games this week. This meant our covers were ready for the recent snow, the nets set up and the square completely rolled (for the 5th time during the off season), as well as all the other little jobs that go unnoticed.

Since then the focus has been on preparing the pitches ready for games, again, completed in brilliant time and many volunteers led by Pete Barker.

I’d like to thank everyone for all or any help given to the club as we’ve prepared for the season. There’s always much more to be done but I’m confident that we’re all pulling in the right direction with lots of people willing to help. I hope it’s a successful season for all, and look forward to some tight / competitive games against lots of our friends in opposition.
