The Peter Danes Pavilion - the Frustration of Building Projects
As much as I was hoping by now to report that work was well underway, I'm afraid we're still in one of those Grand Design moments where circumstances are not going in our favour. We had hoped to get Building Control sign off from Epping Forest District Council weeks ago, but there are still some structural engineering queries to be resolved. Aside from not being able to proceed without sign-off anyway, it's really important we get this right - some of you will remember the garage had to be rebuilt when the winds we get up at the Common ripped off the corner within 3 months, and so there's no way we should take any chances with construction calculations.
We'll let everyone know as soon as we get the green light to start the foundations and put up the steel framework. At that point we should have a good idea of when we can schedule a grand opening, and eventually get round to properly remembering and celebrating Danesey's life. But we do need to make sure the building we do it in is going to be around for a long while!
In the meantime, the ground is looking as lovely as ever (if you ignore the building site in the corner!) and we have already held our first game at the club this season. We might be a bit limited with facilities (two Portaloos and parking outside The Sun Inn), but hopefully the sun will shine and we can get some enjoyable cricket in as the new building goes up over the summer.
