Saturday 2nd XI win the league
Our Saturday 2nd XI embarked upon a new challenge in the 2022 season, competing in Division 2 of the Herts and Essex Borders League.
The priority for the season was to continue to develop our younger players, integrating them alongside our more experienced campaigners. This worked brilliant with the team enjoying a very successful campaign and winning the league by 27 points. We were particularly proud of a 9-game unbeaten run.
Each player made at least one significant contribution over the 18 games but special mentions must go to teenager Billy Bays who secured his first league century and to Tarun Seera on his 7-wicket haul against Sawbridgeworth.
Whilst winning the league was a special occasion for the team and club as a whole, it was our team's morale and spirit which made it such an enjoyable season. Inevitably there were occasions when matches were not going our way, but we always dug deep when required, and kept battling hard to secure valuable wins.
Whilst the leadership on the field provided by me was essential, our success was also the sum of the hard work from many off the field too. I want to thank those who give up their time to prepare our pitches throughout the season and the tireless effort of the Team Secretary to ensure we have competitive XI’s every week. Our squad has been fantastic, and I would like to use this forum to thank each and everyone of them for their support and contributions this season.
Next season will be a new and tougher challenge for the team but with strength in depth, the continued progress of our youngsters and our new pavilion to enjoy, I look forward to it being a competitive, successful and sociable season in the new pavilion.
Andy Humphrey, Saturday 2nd XI Captain
